Reaction: scytalone + NADP+ = 1,3,6,8-tetrahydroxynaphthalene + NADPH + H+
Systematic name: scytalone:NADP+ δ5-oxidoreductase
Comments: Reduces 1,3,6,8-tetrahydroxynaphthalene to scytalone and also reduces 1,3,8-trihydroxynaphthalene to vermelone. Involved with EC 18.104.22.168 scytalone dehydratase in the biosynthesis of melanin in pathogenic fungi.
