Reaction: (S)-dihydroorotate + NADP+ = orotate + NADPH + H+
Other name(s): orotate reductase; dihydro-orotic dehydrogenase; L-5,6-dihydro-orotate:NAD+ oxidoreductase; orotate reductase (NADPH)
Systematic name: (S)-dihydroorotate:NADP+ oxidoreductase
Comments: Binds FMN and FAD . Other class 1 dihydroorotate dehydrogenases use either fumarate (EC 220.127.116.11) or NAD+ (EC 18.104.22.168) as electron acceptor. The membrane bound class 2 dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (EC 22.214.171.124) uses quinone as electron acceptor .
