IUBMB Enzyme Nomenclature

EC 3.5.1.36

Accepted name: N-methyl-2-oxoglutaramate hydrolase

Reaction: N-methyl-2-oxoglutaramate + H2O = 2-oxoglutarate + methylamine

Other name(s): 5-hydroxy-N-methylpyroglutamate synthase

Systematic name: N-methyl-2-oxoglutaramate methylamidohydrolase

Comments: In the reverse reaction, the product cyclizes non-enzymically to 2-hydroxy-N-methyl-5-oxoproline.
