Rationale

In fact, it is essentially identical to the fcc(111) surface structure, since both correspond to the hexagonal, close-packed layer of atoms that forms the basis of the bulk structures ( see Introduction ). You have to get down to the 3rd layer before you start to see a difference !

Consequently, it has virtually identical characteristics (which are sumarised on the previous page)
